Chernihiv (Chernigov) is a beautiful City in the Northern Region of Ukraine,not far from Belarus. The population is approximately 350,000 people.Chernihiv is also only a 2 hour drive from Kiev.
In Chernihiv, you will find a beautiful , ancient city that has been around for millenia.It is in my opinion, the most historic city in all of Ukraine, apart from Kiev.
Chernihiv (Chernigov) is famed for it's beautiful churches. It seems wherever you turn,there are amazing ancient churches dating back 600, 700 years & more.The sight of St.Catherines Golden Domes as you drive into Chernihiv from Kiev are always a welcome sight & unforgettable.
Anytime of the year is the right time to visit, whether it is the subtle beauty of winter or the vibrance of spring. My personal favourite is the autumn period.
Walking in the central park & stopping by the cannons overlooking St.Catherines is an unforgettable experience, particularly in early autumn.The statue of Shevchenko is nearby & is not only huge & awe-inspiring it is unmissable!Along with the alley of heroes, leading down to St.Catherines.There is also the cave system linked to the monastery which is famed in europe.
The alley of heroes starts at the main square. Here can be found the main Theatre.This is the arts & cultural centre, housing art works & home to theatre, opera & musicals.From this place, everywhere is nearby & accessible .
It seems almost daily there are new restaurants, casinos, bars & cultural activities opening.This city still keeps a charm & innocence though,which we lost a long time ago in the west.It is an undiscovered pearl to most in the west & is here for you now.
